Church of the Master

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence.
I John 3:18-19
What is a Deacon?
Our Book of Order describes the office of Deacon, as set forth in Scripture, as one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. It further states that it is the duty of Deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.

Church of the Master Deacons
The Board of Deacons here at Church of the Master consists of 15 deacons, organized into three classes of 5 each, elected annually on a rotating basis each class for a three-year term.

The Deacons at Work
Deacons at Church of the Master are involved in the following programs:
Shepherding
Monthly contact to members and attendees over the age of 70 and others in need of care, either by phone or visit. Information is passed on to Peggy Iseminger, our Care Coordinator, for any further follow-up. In addition to our Deacons, Church of the Master has 19 Shepherds. The 34 Deacons and Shepherds are shepherding 97 people.

Homebound Communion
The Deacon in charge of this arranges for communion to be brought to members of our congregation who are homebound or hospitalized.

Bereavement Refreshments
This team provides refreshments at the memorial services held in our sanctuary, serving as hosts to friends and family of the deceased.

CDs
The CD ministry provides audio CSs to members who are unable to attend worship services.

Cards
The card ministry sends cards out for illness, sympathy, birthdays, special care needs and thank you notes for memorial donations.

Care Notes
Deacons also provide the rack of Care Notes located in the Narthex by the main door. These are pamphlets on various topics such as bereavement, illness, care giving, teenage problems, divorce, and others.
Our Reason For Being
Caring and service to our brothers and sisters in Christ is basic to Christianity. Thus, contributing to the betterment of the lives of individuals, the church, and the community through practical care and service to others is our reason for being.
